Athol Place
Athol Place is just down the road from the Tower
Mill.
It was built in the 1860's by Alexander McNab, solicitor
and founder of an eminent firm that still bears
his name. It seems he built it as an investment
as three upstairs downstairs terraces, an intrepid
step in a town almost devoid of terrace housing.
McNab built to last and Athol Place as it is known,
is one of the few stone buildings in Spring Hill.
Subsequent owners "modernised" the terraces
in the thirties, covering it with stucco and false
front.
Recently purchased and held in trust by two surgeons,
Athol Place has been restored with help of the historical
material from the Oxley Library and the support
of the Local Authority against peculiar odds.
The original beautiful building has emerged to contribute
again to a renewed but fragile streetscape of Wickham
Terrace.
